UPDATED: Bunning's Audacity: Why should we ask where the money will come from?

Jim Bunning has drawn a line in the sand.

You may think his placement of that line is a bit arbitrary.  I might agree with you.  After all, Rep.  Bunning and the rest of Congress have been strolling along this beach for some time now, holding hands, watching the sunset.  Sure, the tide is rising, but that's nothing new.  Maybe the wind has picked up some, but the darkest clouds still look pretty far out on the horizon to me.

Why stop here?

Why stop now?

If those are your questions for Jim Bunning today, then I have a question for you.

Why stop at all?

The U.S.  debt has skyrocketed this past year -- somebody tell Al Gore I have another hockey stick graph for his collection -- and our creditors are starting to grumble as they write out the checks.  Does anyone believe those dark clouds will never come ashore?

Anyone outside of Congress, I mean?

If Congress continues to pass these unfunded mandates -- and it doesn't matter how much we need one -- sooner or later our creditors are going to snap those checkbooks shut, and it won't be any day at the beach when they do, either.

At least not a sunny one.
